Legislation sponsored by Assembly Democrats Gary Schaer, Pamela Lampitt and Upendra Chivukula that would require private adoption agencies, the courts, and the state to maintain a child’s religious upbringing when placing a child with a guardian, into foster care, or into an adoptive home was approved by an Assembly panel on Monday.

Assembly members Upendra J. Chivukula and Connie Wagner saluted environmental advocates as heroes and pledged to continue efforts to protect the planet, at the New Jersey Environmental Lobby’s recent annual awards reception. The two lawmakers were honored with Frank J. Oliver Environmental Awards for 2012, at the event held at Seton Hall’s Faculty Lounge in South Orange.
